Shoulder the blame, Pakatan told

STAR, Monday April 23, 2009

GEORGE TOWN: The state government should take responsibility for the poor performance of the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) because the slide came after Pakatan Rakyat began administering the state, said Penang Gerakan assistant secretary Goh Kheng Sneah.

Goh said MPPP’s performance deteriorated after the resignation of several department heads.
The government should now concentrate on improving MPPP’s standard and performance, he added.

“Hawkers are complaining that MPPP has not been handling their problems well,” he said.
Goh urged Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng not to delay in filling up the MPPP president’s post, which was left vacant after Datuk Zainal Rahim Seman was promoted to become the Penang state secretary on Friday.

“Lim should not allow Pakatan Rakyat component parties to interfere in the appointment,” he said.

Goh was commenting on MPPP being ranked 21 out of 98 local authorities nationwide for 2008.
MPPP was graded three stars, achieving 68.5 points out of 100, in a survey carried out by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
